THE CULT HIT FROM STORIED DEVELOPER MASAYA HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Masaya Games to the Retro-Bit library of classic titles.  They were the publishing arm of Nippon Computer Systems since 1987 and released massive game series such as the Assault Suit series, Langrisser, and Cho Aniki.  One aspect present in most of their titles was how they oozed style.  Whether utilizing anime-inspired designs, intense soundtracks, or innovative gameplay, their games carried something unique that set them apart from others and Gley Lancer is no different.

1985

NCS Corporation was founded in 1980 to develop computer software in Japan. By 1985, the company sensed the growth of the video game industry and created its own publishing brand, Masaya. From this, they would grow to produce and release popular franchises such as Kaizō Chōjin Shubibinman, Langrisser, Cho Aniki, Front Mission, Arc the Lad, and the Assault Suit series.

July 1992

Gley Lancer was released on July 17, 1992, for the Japanese Mega Drive.  The "Gley" part of the name is a mis-transliteration of "Grey".  Ralph Grey was the physicist who helped develop the Gunner system of the space fighter.  It received average to high scores with reviewers highlighting the variety of the Gunner system.  The console was already well known for having some of the best arcade shooters, and Gley Lancer clearly belonged among them.

February 2008

Gley Lancer is launched on the Wii Virtual Console, initially in Japan on February 26, 2008, followed by Europe and North America in the following months.  This version was not translated.
